Evolution has never been just a scientific theory. Since it was first published by Darwin in 1859, the theory has been used to advance a variety of political motives. British philosopher Herbert Spencer went a step beyond Darwin's theory of evolution and applied it to the development of human society. In the late 1800s, many Americans enthusiastically embraced Spencer's "Social Darwinism" to justify laissez-faire, or unrestricted, capitalism. Later Nazis, communists, anarchists and Fabian social engineers claimed that their political ideas were grounded in evolution theory. Today, Darwinism is invoked as part of a campaign against religion by people who claim to be liberals. The theory is no more questioned for its lack of scientific evidences as it is being treated as ideology supporting advancement of materialistic civilization.
Evolution of Evolution
In 1868, Earnst Haeckel published a book “Anthropogenie” showing "very early", "somewhat later" and "still later" stages of embryos of fish (F), salamander (A), turtle (T), chick (H), pig (S), cow (R), rabbit (K), and human (M). This was to demonstrate that humans share a common ancestry with these animals and thus prove the theory of evolution.
In 1912, amateur archaeologist Charles Dawson discovered fossil skull which had human features and the jaw was ape-like, in village of Piltdown in southern England. The fossils became known as Piltdown Man and were called Eoanthropus dawsoni which means ‘Dawson’s Dawn Man’. In 1915, another Dawn Man was found a couple of miles away from the site of the first find. Fossil-remains of animals that lived with Piltdown Man, together with the tools that he used, were also found at the two sites. At last, here was apparent ‘proof’ that apes had evolved into humans in England.
In 1922 Paleontologist Harald Cook found a single tooth in Western Nebraska USA in Pliocene deposits that were alleged to be 6 million years old. Osborn, along with Dr. William D. Matthew soon came to the conclusion that the tooth had belonged to an anthropoid ape. They then passed the tooth along to William K. Gregory and Dr. Milo Hellman, who agreed that the tooth belonged to an anthropoid ape more closely related to humans than to other apes. Publication of this Nebraska man tooth in famous Science Magazine granted the Darwin’s evolution theory an entrance in US school text books.
Over past few decades Paleontologists have collected dense amount of fossils showing the pathways of evolution from earlier to later forms. Which made the Darwin’s theory of Evolution sound more scientific.
Devolution of Evolution
In the summers of 1925 and 1926 during the field work at Western Nebraska, archaeologists uncovered parts of the skeleton. These discoveries revealed that the Nebraska man tooth was incorrectly identified. According to newly discovered pieces, the tooth belonged neither to a man nor an ape, but to a fossil of an extinct species of peccary called Prosthennops serus. The earlier identification as an ape was retracted in the journal Science in 1927. But it was too late to retract it from school text books.
In 1953, Piltdown Man was exposed as a forgery, mainly through the work of Dr. Kenneth Oakley. He showed that the skull was from a modern human and that the jawbone and teeth were from an orangutan. The teeth had been filed down to make them look human. The bones and teeth had been chemically treated (and even painted) to give them the appearance of being ancient.
Generations of biology students have been convinced that vertebrate embryos of different animals pass through an identical stage of development. But a report in the August 1997 issue of Anatomy and Embryology charges that Haeckel exaggerated the drawings. Dr. Michael Richardson and team photographed the growing embryos of 39 different species. And surprise. Earnst Haeckel’s drawings are nowhere near the pictures of real embryos.
In a 1997 interview in The Times of London, Dr. Richardson stated: “This is one of the worst cases of scientific fraud.”
Widely known fossils which played as scientific evidence for Darwin’s theory are in controversy of being fabricated, manipulated, falsely identified or falsely presented. Top in the list are the fossils of: Java man, Neanderthal man, Lucy the hominid, Orce man, earliest horse fossils founded on upper surface, and many more.
Other fossils which are apparently out of controversy, are identified as that of the intermediate species between primitive and advanced species. According to process of Darwinian evolution i.e. Natural Selection the intermediate species must be fitter and advanced then primitive ones. But, contradictory to the theory, the primitive species are still existing while intermediate species are extinct.
Thus becomes the Theory of Evolution a pseudoscience.
Evolution, Education & Politics
For more than a century now, Generations of students have been taught Darwin’s theory as science backed by evidences. As result, 58% population of US identifying themselves as moderate or liberal grounds their atheistic ideology to Theory of Evolution. This makes the removal of Darwin’s theory from school textbook a politically damaging move. Rest of the world follows. But in the beginning of 21st century most US states, having realized pseudoscience involved in Darwin’s theory, formulated policies asking teachers to help students understand, analyze, critique, and review in an objective manner the scientific strengths and scientific weaknesses of existing scientific theories.
It’s difficult to comment on what kind of confused state the world will be put into, on account of such education style, especially in regard with Creation.
Original Theory of Evolution
Modern science started to evolve mainly in 16th and 17th century. Does that mean, man was never struck with question about his origin? No. In fact this question was the foremost in the list a man had. In the Vedic society, period from the beginning of universe till 3100 BC, people were very much aware of the answer to this question and the whole civilization was based on that answer.
The Universe was created 155.521960853119 trillion years ago. And 8.4 million of species were created by Brahma, the first living entity, after meditating for 0.36 million years. Padma Purana gives the description of the species as:
“jalaja nava lakshani, sthavara laksha-vimshati,
krimayo rudra-sankhyakah, pakshinam dasha-lakshanam,
trinshal-lakshani pashavah, chatur lakshani manavah”
i.e.:
- 900,000 species of aquatic.
- 2,000,000 species of plants.
- 1,100,000 species of insects.
- 1,000,000 species of birds.
- 3,000,000 species of beasts.
- 400,000 species of human beings
Distinction among the species is made based on the difference in the consciousness and not in anatomy. Also, the evolution mentioned in the Vedic Scriptures is not based on one body evolving into other but soul evolving from lower consciousness to higher as it transmigrate from one body to other.
For a soul there is no birth and death. It is eternally living in the Spiritual world. But at some point the soul, by its own desire, takes its first birth in one of the Universe as Brahma, the highest conscious human among 4,00,000 species of humans. Based on its Karma, he takes his next birth in one of the 8.4 million species. Then onwards soul evolves from wherever it is, in the evolutionary chain from aquatics to plants to insects to birds to beasts to human beings again. Every time a soul takes birth as human, it has opportunity to choose its next body based on its Karma. And the whole Vedic civilization was based on the principle of utilizing this opportunity to go back to the Spiritual world and stop suffering in this material world.
