Mother Who Gives Us Second Birth

The occasion of Mother’s day is the time to recollect all care &shelter that we received from our mothers. The whole world is surcharged with high emotions to reconnect with that ever loving mother.

Our bodies have taken birth from our mothers and the scriptures explain that this is the first birth or material birth. Yet there is another birth that one takes by receiving transcendental knowledge from Vedas, this is called spiritual birth or second birth. Therefore Vedas are often called Veda-mata or mother Veda.

The birth giving mother is the first teacher to a child and the Vedas are the ultimate teachers to entire humanity. Vedas give the complete knowledge about our existence and the purpose of existence which is to connect with the Supreme Father, God.

Suppose a person doesn’t know about his father, it is common sense to enquire about him from his mother. Mother is the authority to know father. By speculation, experimentation or research he may not be successful to find out. Even if he endeavors, it will take a lot of time and energy and one’s life time may not be sufficient. The easiest way to acquire knowledge is to approach the mother. Similarly learning about our Supreme Father from Vedas is the easiest and perfect way of acquiring complete knowledge.

It is an axiomatic truth that for anything to exist there must be a cause behind it. For example, the cause behind every modern invention is an intellectual scientist. The cause behind a building are the architect and the builder who built it. Likewise a question arises as to what is the cause of the universe in which many galaxies, stars, planets etc., are existing? Is it reasonable to say that such a wonderful, flawless and magnificent creation which is governed by many systematic laws came about due to an explosion or a chance?’

Modern science is struggling to explain this due to insufficient evidences. In this way its conclusion remains inconsistent. From the authority of the Vedas we learn that there is an intellectual scientist behind it and that intellectual scientist is the Supreme Father, God. Srimad Bhagavatam gives us a pragmatic science of creation and explains how universe is created by the Supreme Father.

Modern science is enthusiastic to find the cause and effect of everything in the creation without referring to the Vedas where the cause of all causes is explained with all logic and reason. As modern science is deprived of this knowledge so its students have no access to understand the ultimate cause - sarva-karana-karanam.The imperfections of scientific research are attributed to the imperfect senses of the researcher and his tendency to commit mistakes. Vedas explain that by hypothesis and direct perception one can never know about cause of all causes who is beyond sense perception.

The Vedas conclude that the cause of all causes is Supreme Lord Krishna; “janmady asya yatah - The Supreme Absolute Truth, Lord Krishna is the source of everything”. Lord Krishna also confirms in Bhagavad- Gita(Bg) 9.17 “pitaham asya jagato mata dhata pitamahah - I am the father of this universe, the mother, the support and the grandsire.”Therefore Lord Krishna is the Supreme Father of everyone

A mother not only informs the child about his father but also takes care of him in all respects. Similarly the Vedas look to all the necessities of entire humanity by giving complete knowledge about everything. By taking shelter of the Vedas we can learn everything which is perceivable as well as everything beyond our perception very systematically and logically. By knowing the Vedas no questions can remain unanswered and nothing further remains to be known. We can solve all problems of our life and put an end to all miseries.

Ultimate aim of the Vedasis to make us meet our Supreme father, Lord Krishna. In Bhagavad- gita 15.15, Lord Krishna declares “vedaish cha sarvair aham eva vedyo - By all the Vedas, I am to be known.” This is the purpose of entire Vedas.

On the occasion of International Mother’s Day let us remember this mother, offer our gratitude and service to her by seriously reading Bhagavad-Gita- As it is, which is the essence of all Vedic literature and lead a happy and peaceful life.
