Can God Create A Rock So Heavy that He Himself Cannot Lift? This paradoxical situation has been a matter of great introspection as well as debate for the theologists.
The argument goes on like this…
If He cannot lift a rock created by Himself then its challenge to His being omnipotent or all-powerful. And how is it possible that God can create something beyond His capacity. Omnipotency is an essential quality of God, as the shastras explain that He is the possessor of unlimited strength. So a possessor of unlimited strength cannot fail to lift a rock so heavy.
And if cannot create such a rock at all then again it’s a challenge on God’s being God? As per the scriptures, God is the possessor of inconceivable potencies and thus noting is impossible for Him.
Once His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada, the spiritual master of the Hare Krishna Movement was asked the same question, “Can God create a rock so heavy that He Himself cannot lift?” and Srila Prabhupada replied, “Yes, He can. And if He wishes, next moment He can lift it too. That is God.”
The conclusion is that God's potency is inconceivable and there is nothing impossible for Him.

यदि वे स्वयं द्वारा बनाया पत्थर नहीं उठा सकते तो वह उनके सर्वशक्तिमान होने पर चुनौती है । और यह कैसे संभव है कि भगवान् अपनी शक्ति के परे रचना करें ? सर्वशक्तिमान होने भगवान् का एक महत्वपूर्ण गुण है और शास्त्र बताते हैं कि वे अनंत शक्ति के स्वामी हैं । सो अनन्त शक्ति के स्वामी किसी भी भरी पत्थर को उठाने में विफल नहीं हो सकते ।
और यदि वे ऐसा पत्थर बना ही नहीं सकते तो यह पुनः भगवान् के भगवान् होने को चुनौती है । शास्त्रों के अनुसार भगवान् अचिन्त्य शक्तियों के स्वामी हैं तो उनके लिए कुछ भी असंभव नहीं है ।
एक बार विश्वव्यापी हरे कृष्ण अन्दोलन के गुरु कृष्णकृपा मूर्ति श्रील प्रभुपाद से यह प्रश्न पूछा गया, “क्या भगवान् इतना भारी पत्थर बना सकते हैं कि वे स्वयं उसे न उठा सकें?” श्रील प्रभुपादने उत्तर दिया, “हाँ वे बना सकते हैं । और वे चाहें तो यदि अगले ही क्षण उसे उठा भी सकते हैं । ये हैं भगवान् ।“
निष्कर्ष यह है कि भगवान् की शक्तियाँ अचिन्त्य हैं और उनके लिए कुछ भी असंभव नहीं है ।
